Taken during a decade’s worth of daily strolls, these photos reflect the quirky vision of an attentive artist who finds meaning and connection everywhere he looks. The result is a book that captures the essence of a singular town.

Walking Flagstaff was a finalist in the Excellence in Storytelling category of the Flagstaff Arts Council’s Viola Awards in 2020. This book brought home a silver Benjamin Franklin award from the Independent Book Publishers Association in the Regional category. It also won Best Coffee Table Book and Best Cover Design from the New Mexico-Arizona Book Awards.

I’ve been lucky enough to see George Breed out and about taking pictures in our mountain town. I watch him connect to a scene, or a configuration, or an image, then point and shoot. I admire his style of raw capture. You are truly seeing what he sees in this book. Not only iconic shots from all over town, but beautiful moments that anyone who has ever lived in Flagstaff, Arizona, would connect to as well. This book makes an AWESOME gift for the Flagstaff-lovers in your life!

What an amazing and delightful mix of images of the people, structures, creatures, and natural habitat that make Flagstaff special! I only lived there for two years, in the late 90s, but looking through George’s book brought back many fond memories. A truly wonderful book!
