Why do we say that here at Soulstice Publishing, “the play’s the thing”?

In this post:

You’re invited to attend opening night at the 2009 Blue Mountain Rose production of The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark

In a fictional theater festival beset by the financial storm of 2009’s Great Recession, some of the world’s finest actors rely on Shakespeare’s words to help them grapple with issues of love, fame, family, and grief.

Set in Soulstice’s hometown of Flagstaff, Arizona, our forthcoming title Blue Mountain Rose: A Novel in Five Acts is sure to appeal to readers who like to see plays, Shakespeare fans, and anyone who’s ever watched great actors at work and wondered, “How do they do it?”

Holiday presale (through December 21)

You can give Blue Mountain Rose as a gift to yourself or someone you love. You or your giftee will receive a gift card announcing that you have reserved a signed copy. Gift cards will be mailed starting December 14. Books will be postmarked by January 31, 2025. The book doesn’t go on sale across the nation until next April 23 (Shakespeare’s birthday!). That means you or your gift recipient will be among its earliest readers, and among the few to own a signed copy.

Meet Soulstice at Winter Market

Soulstice Publishing will have a table at the Winter Market in Flagstaff’s historic Ice House on Saturday, December 14, from 12 to 5. Come on by to find quality books of local interest, published right here in Flagstaff! We think you’ll find the “just right” gift for anyone who loves our mountain town. And if you need to fill a runner’s stocking, give them the gift of an inspiring story from our shop! Learn more about Winter Market.

Meaningful gifts for runners

Soulstice was founded by runners who love to read. Our first book, To Imogene, a Flagstaff Love Letter, celebrates our mountain town’s long-distance love affair with the Imogene Pass Run. It’s still available, along with stickers and prints to bring joy to the heart of any Imogene-enthusiast.

Books and prints for anyone who loves Flagstaff

Soulstice was born and raised in Flagstaff, Arizona, and our roots run deep. We’ve made meaningful partnerships with local authors who love the place as much as we do.

At age 71, martial artist and Marine George Breed retired from a career in psychology and began walking the paths, streets, and back alleys of Flagstaff. His photo blog, “Walking Flagstaff,” became well known and blossomed into a popular Facebook page. We worked with George on his book Walking Flagstaff, A Photo Journal by George Breed. We also offer George’s prints for sale.

Ecologist, educator, and writer John L. Vankat captured the passage of time in Flagstaff and the San Francisco Peaks in his book of precise photo repeats, The San Francisco Peaks and Flagstaff Through the Lens of Time. Vankat’s photos are a way to process and understand the changes wrought by the past century of human settlement in Northern Arizona. No hiking required: Vankat has already done the legwork.”–Cullen Hamblen, in an Earth Note produced by KNAU and the Sustainable Communities Program at Northern Arizona University.

Educator Kathy Eckles Hooker has worked with Navajo elders and the women in 21 Navajo families to create two powerful books that carry the proud Navajo culture for everyone to appreciate. In the newly republished We Walk the Earth in Beauty: Traditional Navajo Lifeways, readers experience the time-honored practices of the Navajo as shared by wisdom-keepers who live close to the land and follow ancestral ways. In Voices of Navajo Mothers and Daughters: Portraits of Beauty, more than 60 Navajo grandmothers, mothers, and daughters in 21 families open up about their lives, their culture, and their love for each other.
