Hi, I’m Julie Hammonds, author of Blue Mountain Rose: A Novel in Five Acts.
Publishing this novel was a bucket-list dream of mine. Now, Blue Mountain Rose is out in the world, meeting readers. As its creator, I get the joy of representing it in lots of different places. I’m seeing wonderful shows and meeting actors, theater fans, and the crew and administrators who work behind the scenes to give audiences the opportunity to see Shakespeare’s work performed.
As my book makes friends, so do I. What a treat! I’m deeply grateful for opportunities like these.
May 20 is my next big opportunity to introduce Blue Mountain Rose to readers. I’ll be sharing it with a hometown crowd in Flagstaff, where the book is set. I think people will enjoy hearing about all the local places I mentioned as I tried to capture Flagstaff’s unique essence.
I didn’t set out to do this, but the book is something of a travel poster for our quirky mountain town. Austin Tichenor, host of the Reduced Shakespeare Company Podcast, joked, “After reading Blue Mountain Rose, the first thing I want to do is book a trip to Flagstaff, Arizona, which is never a sentence that I thought I would find myself saying.”
I’m grateful to Bright Side Bookshop, Flagstaff’s independent bookstore, for hosting me at this book event. We wanted to create a fun and different experience for readers, so Dawn Tucker, executive director of the Flagstaff Shakespeare Festival, will interview me. Then I’ll do a short reading and answer questions from the audience. I’ll also sign books, of course…
