For Authors

Would you like to be published by Soulstice Publishing?

We exclusively publish titles that fit with Soulstice’s mission and our editorial interests. That benefits both Soulstice and authors. We’re interested in nonfiction that emphasizes the achievement of human potential and/or life in the Southwest. We also occasionally publish fiction that reflects these themes.

What this means to you as an author is that when we accept your book, you will partner with an editor who deeply understands its potential.

What can an author expect from Soulstice?

Support for your dream: Authors and potential authors come to us for help shaping ideas into book projects or turning their manuscripts into published books.

Industry knowledge: We study today’s publishing industry and produce books that meet the highest industry standards.

A quality product: We track the details to ensure editorial, design, and production quality.

National distribution: We distribute books nationally to the book trade (bookstores, libraries, and online retailers) through IPG, the Independent Publishers Group, the original independent book distribution and sales company in the United States.

Excellence in marketing: We work with authors on a marketing plan that fits their project, and we pursue and manage a range of publishing rights to reach the widest possible readership.

A fair contract: We pay authors a higher-than-standard royalty in exchange for the author’s personal investment in publication. The author may provide their own funding or bring sponsors, backers, or investors to the table.

Partnership publishing

Soulstice uses a partnership publishing model with our authors and arts patrons. This means the author (and sometimes a sponsor, backer, or fanbase) subsidizes publication costs in return for a higher share of sales proceeds and greater involvement at every step in creating your “book with soul.” We’ve pledged to meet the partnership publisher criteria of the Independent Book Publishers Association. How the process works

The editing process: Once we agree to work together on your project, Soulstice will pair you with a lead editor who sees your book’s potential and has the skills to help you say what you mean in a way that sharpens your authentic writing voice. There are several different levels of editing, from developing an idea to digging deep into text to giving your work a final polish. We collaborate with you to meet the needs of your book.

When many people think of editors, they remember a scary teacher with a list of rules and a sharp red pen. We’re not that kind of editor. Sure, we know the rules and why they’re there. We also know when to break them. As editors, we strive to be supportive, effective coaches. You never knew being edited could be fun, did you?

Proofreading: To ensure a quality product, your book is proofed in its final stages.

Design: We hire professional designers to give your book its very own look and feel. Soulstice authors are involved in their book’s design.

Marketing: We work closely with authors to develop and implement a detailed marketing plan that gives your book its best chance at finding devoted readers.
